ATRI State Top Industry Issues for trucking and transportation

When the American Transportation Research Institute published the results of their ATRI State Top Industry Issues survey earlier this month, we can’t say that we were all that surprised by the findings. Neither were our associates at the Rhode Island Trucking Association (RITA). After all, we’ve been helping to solve the very issues identified in the report longer than the survey has been conducted.

Now in its 15th year, the ATRI survey seeks to uncover issues of concern within the trucking industry by asking professionals within it. For the first time, due to an overwhelming response, the survey was customized for the state of Rhode Island.

Respondents conveyed as a group that they’d like to:

  • “identify carrier best practices that mitigate insurance premium increases”
  • “conduct an industry cost-benefit analysis on the newest safety technologies to better quantify the potential crash reductions and expected return-on-investment from deployment”

Also topping the survey results were the issues of:

  • driver shortages
  • tolls
  • electronic logging devices
  • compliance, safety and accountability
